white sand, clear blue waters, palm tree shade, make it a busy place!

We found it very organised, with many little restaurants and bars right on the beach. What was amazing however, was the reluctance of the use of plastic; Bungalows, restaurants and beach bars all use local materials such as bamboo or wooden frames and facades, wooden window frames and palm thatched roofs. Chaises longues and side tables made out of wood, paths in the sand made of series of wooden branches or stones.A local or two would pass by selling local goods.

The architecture of the place is so simple and yet amazing. We spent a good few hours thinking discussing why there is such an architectural overcomplication in other places and that if left to the local materials, shapes and colours the buildings are so much better looking and sit in harmony with their environment.
And why at the same time, this approach and the attention to these details is considered in some places to be a sophisticated design approach often addressed for the non-average clientele?
